BR Long Service Awards and Christmas Party
On the 15th December 2017 Botswana Railways held its Annual Long Service Award Ceremony and Christmas party at the BR Grounds. BR employees from different stations were present to join in celebrating those who have been serving the organisation diligently over the years and also to reflect on our achievements and shortcomings throughout the year. The event saw about 180 employees receive awards and certificates for their continued loyalty to the organisation some of which had over 30 years of service to the organisation.
BR CEO Mr. Leonard Makwinja took a moment to express his sincere gratitude for being part of the momentous occasion where we celebrated the long service of some of Botswana Railways’ most dedicated employees. He said that he feels very honoured to be part of the very special and important event of the year. He noted that each one of the award recipients plays a critical role in driving the mandate of the organisation and as such he finds it befitting to recognise the value that each one of them brings.
He thanked the award recipients for their time and dedication noting that through solidarity of employees, BR will certainly reach greater heights. Mr Makwinja outlined that Botswana Railways has transformed and expanded over the 30-year period, from freight and passenger services to include courier services in the form of Blue Mark and containerized cargo through Gabcon; the set-up of a Dry Port in Namibia and property development. He stated that through these projects BR has been able to reinvest and reinforce its assets and infrastructure as we recently built new station terminals, bought eight (8) new locomotives which is timely as we push to exploit new business opportunities in the coming year.
On the lighter side employees were treated to sumptuous meals and music. It was a pleasant sight to see both management and staff in a celebratory mood.
