Mmegi Article On Botswana Railways – “Zim Company To Repaire BR Passenger Coaches”

Reference is made to an article published in the Mmegi newspaper of Wednesday, 9th January 2008 titled Zim Company to repair BR passenger coaches.

Botswana Railways (BR) wishes to inform the general public that the published story is untrue.  Botswana Railways does not have any passenger coaches which are in Zimbabwe for refurbishment.  BR floated a tender for the refurbishment of coaches in 2006, a tender that was awarded to Union Carriage & Wagon (UCW) South Africa.  UCW has not carried out these works citing capacity problems.

Botswana Railways had a meeting with the Chief Executive Officer of Gulliver Consolidated on 17th January 2008 who has assured Botswana Railways that Gulliver Consolidated never issued a press statement in this regard.

We wish to inform our customers and stakeholders to disregard this article as fabrication.  Botswana Railways regrets any misunderstanding that may have been caused by this article.
