Repositioning for Environmentally Sustainable Growth
Strategic business partnership that exist between Botswana Railways (BR) and Zambia Railways Limited (ZRL) saw BR exhibiting at the Copperbelt Agriculture Mining Industrial Networking Enterprise Expo(Caminex) 2018 at Kitwe, Zambia.Speaking at the three day exhibition, Botswana Railways Acting Director of Operations and Engineering Mr. Stephen Makuke acknowledged that the strong relations between Railways operators are considered as key drivers of economic growth in the region.
“The development of cross-border rail corridor linking Southern African Development Community (SADC) member states is the most effective way to unlock regional trade and create sustainable cooperation between countries in the region,” said Makuke.For his part, Zambia Railways Limited (ZRL) Managing Director Mr. Christopher Musonda said he was delighted by Botswana Railways presence at the 2nd edition of the show.He said ZRL is enthused by Botswana Railways Property Management system and Dry port facility model which they wish to adopt. He further said ZRL has repositioned and is focusing on growth, with the support of BR and other Rail Operators in the region.
The Governments of Botswana and Zambia are currently constructing Rail-Road Bridge at Kazungula,it is a multi-national and a border crossing Project at the confluence of the Zambezi and Chobe Rivers. Upon completion the project is to facilitate trade through; Reduced Transit Time for freight & passengers; Reduced Time-based trade & transport cost and improved border management operations from the new One Stop Border Facilities.
Caminex Expo ran from the 5th – 7th June ,2018 under the theme: Repositioning for Environmentally sustainable Economic growth. The Show attracted over a hundred exhibitors from different sectors both locally and internationally.
