In recognition of the growth in the import-export business, Botswana Railways in alliance with its business partners established two dry ports in Botswana;  Gabcon in the south and Francon in the north.

The objectives of establishing the dry ports were to;

• Facilitate and boost trade on the major entry and exit points of the country.
• Streamline customs formalities, with the aim of speeding up clearance in as little time as possible.
• Provide door to door delivery service and subsequently, cut customers' costs and problems.
