BOTSWANA AND ZAMBIA ADVANCE MOSETSE–KAZUNGULA–LIVINGSTONE RAILWAY PROJECT

Botswana and Zambia convened Joint Technical Committee (JTC) and Joint Steering Committee (JSC) meetings in Kasane to review progress and discuss the next steps for the 430-kilometre Mosetse–Kazungula–Livingstone Railway Project.Supported by the Government of Botswana through the Botswana Economic Transformation Programme (BETP), the project is being spearheaded by Botswana Railways and Zambia Railways Limited, in collaboration with their respective transport ministries and key stakeholders.The railway project is expected to strengthen connectivity between Botswana and Zambia, improve the movement of freight and enhance regional trade. It will also provide an opportunity to increase rail freight volumes, improve logistics efficiency and reduce transportation costs for businesses.Beyond its transport benefits, the project is expected to contribute to regional economic integration and economic growth by opening up new opportunities for trade, investment and business development along the railway corridor. Continued collaboration through the JTC and JSC will support coordination and progress towards advancing the project.
