Botswana Railways and BIUST forge strategic partnership through MOU signing

Botswana Railways (BR) and the Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST) have officially entered a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to foster collaboration in research, innovation, and skills development within the railway and engineering sectors.The MOU signing ceremony, held at Botswana Railways HQ-Main Boardroom marks a significant milestone in strengthening industry-academic partnerships, ensuring that both institutions leverage their expertise and resources for mutual growth and national development. This collaboration underscores a shared commitment to advancing Botswana’s transportation and engineering landscape through impactful research and skills enhancement.Under this agreement, BR and BIUST will focus on key areas including:

• Collaborative Research and Development: Encouraging joint research initiatives to drive innovation and technological advancements in the railway sector.
• Opportunities for Industrial Placements and Graduate Development: Providing BIUST students with practical exposure and hands-on experience to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and industry application.
• Guidelines for Concept Development: Establishing frameworks for the ideation, testing, and implementation of new solutions aimed at improving railway efficiency and sustainability.
• Speaking at the signing ceremony, Botswana Railways Acting General Manager Mr. Palalani Mari- highlighted  the importance of this fostering a knowledge-driven railway sector.
