Botswana Railways Welcomes the Roving Torch

June 3, 2016 is yet another day that marked memorable events for Botswana Railways as we welcomes the Roving Torch in Mahalapye.

There is no denying that Botswana Railways is inextricably tied to the history of Botswana, our line which stretches from Ramatlabama in the South to Ramokgwebana in the north has played a pivotal role in the lives of every Motswana thus the significance of the Roving Torch to our organization.

The Roving Torch which marked the countdown to Botswana’s 50th anniversary to be celebrated on September 30th, 2016 has since its launch been travelling around the country in an effort to keep the spirit of every Motswana burning with the hope that the country would realize the seven Vision 2016 pillars.

The President Republic of Botswana His Excellency, Lieutenant General Dr. Seretse Khama Ian Khama first launched the Roving Torch in September 30th, 2015 where he pledged commitment to the country’s founding four national principles of development, self-reliance, democracy and dignity.

It is by virtue of these celebrations that Botswana Railways premises at Mahalapye Station were selected as one of the historical sites to host the Botswana 50 Years of Independence Roving Torch. The Roving Torch was welcomed at the Botswana Railways Mahalapye Station on June 3, 2016 from 1400 Hours -1500 Hours.

Present at the event were the Village Leadership, Botswana Railways Board Member Mr Oreeditse Sola Molebatsi,BR Executive Management, Staff as well as members of the public.

This is the second time that Botswana Railways has had a chance to welcome the Roving Torch into its premises, on Tuesday 06th,October 2015 Botswana Railways offices in Lobatse got the honor of being the first to hold the BOT50 Roving Torch.
