On October 21, 2025, sixteen determined Trainee Enginemen took their first step into the demanding, yet deeply rewarding, world of locomotive operations. These individuals are more than just trainees, they are the future guardians of our rail industry, entrusted with the vital task of ensuring the safe and efficient movement of the trains that drive the nation’s economy.Through the rigorous eighteen-month Enginemen Training Programme, Botswana Railways is shaping more than just locomotive operators, it is developing leaders, innovators, and safety champions. The curriculum is a blend of intensive theoretical knowledge and critical practical application. Trainees will gain firsthand, hands-on experience in all facets of locomotive handling, mastering complex safety procedures and emergency response management.
