Integrated Management System

BR has embarked on a journey to develop an Integrated Safety, Health, Environment, Quality and Security Risk Management system using the International Standards ISO 9001:2015 which requires compliance to Quality Management; ISO 14001:2015 which requires compliance to Environmental Management, ISO 45001:2018 which requires Occupational Health and Safety Management as the framework for developing the system. International best practice such as SANS 3000:1 2016, The South African Railway Safety Management System Requirements; Legislation as well as the Botswana Railways Legal Register will form with the International Standards (ISO) the Integrated Management System. After the development and Implementation of the IMS, the system will be certified by an Independent Certification Body. This will ensure that Botswana Railways claim its position Internationally among some of the Corporate Blue-Chip Companies in the world. It will also have a major impact in creating a safety, healthy and an environmentally friendly environment for all internal as well as external stakeholders, such as employees, contractors as well as the community within the boundaries of our operations. The quality management system will assist in improving how to service customers and grow business. BR has also embarked on training employees, not only to comply with the requirements of the IMS, but also broaden their knowledge to ensure a better environment to operate in and ensure customer satisfaction. Twenty-five (25) employees across all sections of BR operations were trained on the principles of these international standards, the implementation thereof as well as the benefits. More training will be embarked on the following months on Risk Assessments, Auditing Techniques, Awareness Training and Root Cause Analysis training among others.
