Joint Ministerial Committee (JMC) meeting for the Mosetse-Kazungula-Livingstone (MKL) Railway Link Project

On Friday, June 6, 2025, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure in Botswana hosted the Joint Ministerial Committee (JMC) meeting for the Mosetse-Kazungula-Livingstone (MKL) Railway Link Project. The primary purpose of this meeting was to deliberate on the progress and strategic direction of this vital regional railway initiative.The meeting saw the participation of key figures, including the Hon. Noah Salakae, MP, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure for Botswana, and his Zambian counterpart, Honourable Museba Frank Tayali, MP, Minister of Transport and Logistics. The honourable Ministers underscored the meeting's importance, emphasizing that it signifies a shared vision and commitment to improving regional connectivity and fostering economic growth through the realization of the MKL Railway Link Project. Both Ministers reaffirmed their dedication to continued close cooperation in exploring strategic partnerships for transport, logistics, and infrastructure development across the region.Also in attendance were Mr. Plato Gaoboi, Botswana Railways Board Chairperson, and Ms. Chelesile Malele, Acting General Manager. Their presence highlighted the significant role the rail sector plays not only in Botswana but also in advancing regional rail connectivity, fostering economic growth, and unlocking investment opportunities that will shape the future of transportation infrastructure in Southern Africa. While still at the feasibility stage, this project promises to enhance trade, facilitate easier movement of goods and people, and create new economic avenues for communities in Southern Africa.
