South African High Commission Delegation Visit Botswana Railways

Botswana Railways business is mainly in the TFR corridors, therefore a disruption in these lines means a disruption to Botswana Railways business. The South African High Commission delegation through its acting High Commissioner, His Excellency Rondee Scherman saw it fit to visit Botswana Railways to appreciate our operations and most importantly prepare for a delegation visit by TFR Executive who will visit Botswana Railways to discuss issues persisting in the Botswana Railways - TFR Corridor. One of the issues discussed was about the communities living along the railway in South Africa who continue to disrupt the operations by vandalizing the railway line as leverage and a crying call to the South African government to address service delivery in their communities. The visit by TFR delegation will address all these challenges in the corridor which has adversely affected Botswana Railways business in terms of turnaround time, leading to some customers opting for road transportation as a solution. The construction of the Mmamabula - Lephalale line is deemed to be the best solution to unlock the untapped coal reserves to drive the economy and also be an alternative route for movement of trains. The progress of the project will be discussed together with what more needs to be done to expedite it.
