St Paul’s Anglican Church

Saturday, August 26, 2017

On the 26th August 2017, St. Paul’s Anglican Church kick started their fundraising campaign with a sponsored walk as they prepare to celebrate 105 years of existence on the 28th October 2017. Botswana Railways Chief Executive Officer Mr. Leonard Makwinja was honoured with an invite to be a Chief Walker during the 10km sponsored walk in Molepolole.

The walk started at the church building and a brief stopover was made by Canon Primary School where some of the founders of the church and high priest are laid to rest. After a short prayer, the walk continued to the other cemetery for a similar purpose before reaching the Bakwena Main Kgotla where a bit of history was shared about the church and its origins in the village. The 10km walk preceded back to the church premises where aerobics and routine health tests were done.

The CEO presented a P5000.00 cheque to the church fund. In accordance to our CSI policy, Botswana Railways (BR) recognises its responsibility as a corporate citizen towards its stakeholders and the communities within which it operates hence we saw it befitting to contribute to this noble initiative.

Mr Makwinja was accompanied by the Passenger Services Manager and used the opportunity to urge the church to be in close contact with her to consider the passenger train in future as a mode of transport whenever they travel to places along the railway line. He noted that the church has the luxury to hire the coaches since travelling by train is less strenuous and it is safer.
